Tostones (Puerto Rican Fried Plantains)

  • Yield: 2 1x


  • 5 tbs avocado, peanut or coconut oil
  • 1 large green plaintain
  • 3 cups cold water
  • to taste salt
  • Tajîn seasoning (GARNISH Or substitute Paprika)


  1. Peel the plantain and cut into 1-inch slices.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet.
  3. Place the plantains in the oil and fry on both sides, approx. 3 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the plantains from pan and place on a towel to drain.
  5. Using the bottom of a glass or spatula, flatten the plantains.
  6. Dip the plantains in cold water and return them to the hot oil.
  7. Fry about 1 minute on each side.
  8. Remove to paper towel and season with salt and paprika.
