Czech Christmas Fried Fish

  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

This recipe was written to be keto but you can use regular flour and cornmeal if you aren't eating keto.

  • 2 fillets cod or haddock (skinless)
  • 1 tsp caraway seed (ground)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbs heavy whipping cream (or coconut milk)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or almond flour)
  • 2 tbs corn meal (or flax seed meal)
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

  1. In a medium bowl, mix the flour and cornmeal (or almond flour and flaxmeal).
  2. Add the salt, pepper, and caraway seed to the flour mixture and mix well.
  3. Pat dry the fish and season with salt and pepper on both sides
  4. Crack the egg into a bowl and beat with the cream (or coconut milk) and a pinch of salt.
  5. Dip the fish fillets in the egg mixture, then in the flour mixture.
  6. Gently shake off excess coating and set aside.
  7. Heat the ghee in a skillet until very hot.
  8. Add the fish and fry in a single layer on each side over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden and crispy.
  9. Don't be tempted to turn the fish too soon or the "breading" may fall off.
  10. Serve with tartar sauce (see recipe link below for homemade tartar sauce)
