Sweet Chili Sauce

A larger batch can be kept in a tightly sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to a week.


  • 1 tbs rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbs sugar
  • 1 tbs mirin
  • 1 tbs sambal uelek or to taste (Can substitute 1/2 tsp red chili flakes)
  • 1/2 tsp finely minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp finely minced ginger
  • 1/2 tsp tamari or soy sauce (tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1/2 tsp cornstarch dissolved in 1/2 tbs water


  • Place all ingredients except for the cornstarch mixture in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. stirring regularly.
  • Once the sugar is dissolved, stir in the cornstarch mixture.
  • Heat for about 1 minute, until thickened. Let the sauce cool completely before serving.
