Spiced Pecans

  • Yield: 4 cups 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1/2 cup packed golden brown sugar
  • 1/8 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp Chinese 5 spice powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper
  • 4 cup pecan halves ((about 1 pound shelled halves))

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Butter one large baking sheet or cover bottom with parchment paper.
  3. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add brown sugar, water, salt, and spices.
  5. Stir until sugar dissolves.
  6. Add pecans to sugar mixture and stir until syrup thickly coats nuts, stirring constantly, about 5 minutes.
  7. Transfer nuts to baking sheet.
  8. Bake until golden, about 10 minutes.
  9. To prevent them sticking in clumps, remove them from the baking sheet to a cool pan in a single layer to cool.
