Baked "Fried" Onions

  • 1/2 large onion, cut into thin rings
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbs milk


  • Preheat the oven to 475º F (or as high as it goes if it doesn't go to 475)
  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • Set aside
  • Thinly slice the onion and separate the slices
  • Pour flour in one small bowl, Pank + salt + black pepper into a second bowl, and whisk the egg and milk together in another bowl.
  • First, dip a few slices into the flour and and coat well.
  • Then dip them in the egg mixture and then dip them in the Panko and coat well.
  • Place onto the baking sheet.
  • Repeat with the rest of the onions slices.
  • Bake the onions until golden brown, about 25 minutes, flipping them twice.

Set them aside for use later.
