Savory Bread Pudding

Description

This is a versatile recipe that allows you to use your own ingredients. (The picture shows multigrain bread and andouille sausage).


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups bread cubes (preferably stale bread) of choice
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup cheese of choice (best to use semi soft or soft cheese that melts)
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper or to taste
  • 1 tbs dried sage
  • 1 tbs dreid thyme
  • 6 ounces sausage or meat of choice, cut into bite size pieces
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 2 stalks celery, strings removed, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced

Instructions

Custard

  • In a large bowl, mix milk, cream, eggs, 1/2 of the salt and pepper, the sage, and the thyme together until thoroughly mixed.
  • Add the bread cubes and cheese.
  • Allow to soak for 5-10 minutes while preparing remaining ingredients.

Vegetables/Meat

  • In a large skillet, add 2 tbs oil and heat on medium high.
  • Add the meat, onion, celery, and garlic and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until meat is clase to done.
  • Add the mushrooms and cook 3 more minutes.

Pudding

  • Combine the skillet ingredients with the bread mixture.
  • Stir to combine well.
  • Pour into a large, greased casserole dish.
  • Bake 50-60 minutes at 350ºƒ.
  • Remove from the oven and let rest for 15 minutes before serving.
  • Prep Time: 20 minutes
  • Cook Time: 75 minutes
